BCU Soccer vs. Morningside (GPAC Playoffs)

The CSN staff will be blogging throughout tonight's GPAC playoff tilt between the Chargers of Briar Cliff and the crosstown Mustangs of Morningside.

The starters have been introduced and the national anthem is being played. It is a perfect night for soccer... a little cool, but no wind. The Olsen Stadium is a turf pitch, so the speed of play should be quick. Earlier this season, the Chargers defeated the Mustangs, 2-0, at BCU's Faber Field.

Morningside kicks off... the play has been back and forth and neither team is showing much possession... BCU's Andrew Smith hit a right-footed shot high over the crossbar (42:00).

41:45 - Shot for the Mustangs, Travis Ward, went wide to the left.

Buddy Goodenkauf guards the goal for the Chargers while Daniel Whithorn takes that position for the Mustangs.

35:03 - Foul on the Chargers gives the Mustangs an advantage on their offensive side of the field.

32:34 - Matt Witt for the Mustangs did a diving header to block the ball from advancing any further towards his goalie.

28:52 - Charger player Danny Zach came to the rescue and cleared the ball after a near goal for the Mustangs.

30:35 - Shot on goal for Hogan Cemper, followed by a corner kick by number 21, Quin Kilgore.

29:56 - Shot on goal for the Mustangs, Travis Ward, after one of the Charger defenders had a failed attempt to block the ball.

24:41 - Thomas Hunt sneaks in around the back and crosses the ball to center field to Chase Beiermann, who took a shot that went high.

21:56 - After some fancy footwork near the Mustang goal, Charger defenders cleared the ball of out of bounds.

18:03 - Thomas Hunt cleared the ball and the Chargers are safe once again.

8:55 - Corner kick for the Mustangs did not end in a goal due to the block by Alex Witmer.

6:26 - There was a shot taken by a Mustang player that went wide on the left side.

5:58 - Corner kick by Jake Adams led to a shot that went over by Kyle Larkin.

5:25 - Another corner kick has been taken by Jake Adams, resulting in a shot that cleared the top right corner of the post.

During the first half of this game, the Mustangs have outshot the Chargers, 12-3. The Chargers seem to have played defense for most of the game as the Mustangs held possession for a greater percentage of the time.

With only minutes before the start of the second half, the teams are making final preparations.

42:16 - After dribbling through two Charger defensive players, Matt Witt took a shot for the Mustangs, which was blocked by Thomas Hunt.

39:29 - Foul on the Mustangs will give the Chargers a chance to advance the ball down the field.

36:52 - The game is gaining excitement as the ball bounces around in front of the Charger goal and four shots have been taken, none of which resulted in a goal.

18:32 - After an intense battle, Buddy Goodenkauf comes out with ball in hand.

16:46 - A goalie save was added for the Chargers after a shot taken by Hogan Cemper for the Mustangs.

16:32 - Tim McKean took a shot that went wide to the right by less than a foot.

GOAL!! 15:39 - A goal was scored by Hogan Cemper for the Mustangs, changing the score to 1-0.

13:40 - Foul against the Mustangs give the Chargers the advantage just outside the 18.

11:13 - The Chargers are fighting hard to even out the score in this GPAC tournament game.

10:07 - Another foul gives Briar Cliff the advantage once again.

9:51 - The intensity of this game is increasing as the time remaining decreases.

GOAL!! 9:28 - Another goal was scored for the Mustangs by Hogan Cemper. He dribbled past two defenders, giving him an open shot towards the goal. Seconds later, the ball fell into the back of the net, changing the score to 2-0.

8:21 - Jake Adams just reentered the game for the Morningside Mustangs.

8:12 - A yellow card was awarded to Mustang player, Travis Ward.

7:55 - There was a shot taken for the Chargers that hit the football goal post just above the top bar of the soccer goal.
