BCU Holiday Classic: Morningside vs. Central Methodist

It's day two here at the Briar Cliff Holiday Classic, presented by the Holiday Inn-Downtown. In the first match-up of the day, the Mustangs of Morningside will tangle with the Eagles from Central Methodist. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.

Central Methodist senior Brittney Westbrook picks up her second foul early in the contest and has to go to the bench, she has four of the seven Eagle points.

Morningside redshirt freshman Chelsie Trask is off to a good start with seven quick points as the Mustangs lead 11-7 at the 16 minute mark.

Both teams are in a scoring drought as Morningside still leads 21-11 as neither team has dented the scoring column in three minutes of clock time.

Mustang senior Laura Nelson has already hit two three-pointers, coming off a seven three-point performance yesterday.

Finally, Brittany Elliott breaks the scoring ice as Central Methodist cuts the deficit to single digits.

MacKenzi Mendlik scores and Nelson hits another three as Morningside snaps a four-minute scoring drought and takes a 26-15 lead into a timeout with 6:39 left in the first half.

Freshman Bobbi McManaman comes off the bench to knock down two three-pointers as Morningside extends its lead to 33-17.

For the second straight day Nelson cans a three-pointer late in the half and the Mustangs take a 38-22 lead into the halftime break. Nelson has knocked down four three-pointers in the first 20 minutes and leads Morningside with 12 points.

Morningside has come out cold in the second half connecting on just three of their first 15 shots from the field, but Central Methodist can't close the gap.

Eagle sophomore Sami Dunger has 15 points and is trying to keep her team in the game.

Trask continues to heat up in the second half and has score a career-high 25 points as Morningside extends its lead to 68-38

Trask leads Morningside with 25 points while Laura Nelson had 14 points on four-three-pointers and Bobbi McManaman 11 with three made three's.

The Mustangs improve to 11-6 with a 78-45 win over Central Methodist, who falls to 6-7.

Dunger, the Eagles leading scorer, had 16 points as the only double figure scorer for the school from Fayette, Mo.
